The Art Of Tablescaping & The Joy Of Hosting

For as long as she can remember, our founder Yana has loved setting a table.

Before Ode to Joy, there were family birthdays, Sunday lunches and gatherings with friends. Any excuse to bring people together became an opportunity to create something beautiful.

For Yana, a beautifully laid table is never an afterthought. It is often where the vision begins.

Whether she is hosting a summer lunch in the garden, a birthday celebration or a simple supper at home, she always starts with the feeling she wants to create.

It Begins with the Foundation

Before a single flower is chosen, Yana starts with the table itself.

The tablecloth.

The linens.

The crockery.

The glassware.

The candles.

These elements set the tone for everything that follows.

Perhaps it's a beautifully draped linen cloth for a relaxed summer lunch. A floral print for a garden gathering. Soft candlelight for an intimate dinner with friends.

The flowers are never chosen in isolation. They are selected to complement the mood, colours and atmosphere already taking shape.

Flowers Come Next

Once the vision for the table has been established, Yana begins to think about flowers in the same way

she thinks about every other detail. What colours will work with the linens? What textures will soften the setting? What flowers are at their best in this particular season?

A table dressed for summer might call for garden roses, sweet peas and bowls of strawberries. Autumn gatherings may lean towards rich foliage and textural stems. Winter often invites candlelight, evergreens and abundance.

The flowers are there to enhance the atmosphere.

The Beauty is in the Details

Perhaps more than anything, Yana believes that memorable tables are built from thoughtful details.

A handwritten place card.

A favourite ceramic bowl.

Fruit gathered from the garden.

A ribbon tied around a napkin.

Candles lit before guests arrive.

These small touches are often what people remember long after the meal has ended. They communicate care. They make people feel considered and welcomed.

Creating Moments Worth Gathering For

One of the things Yana loves most about hosting is that it doesn't need to be reserved for special occasions.

A beautiful table can elevate the everyday.

A Tuesday supper.

A birthday breakfast.

Coffee and cake with friends.

A family lunch that stretches into the afternoon.

When we take time to create something thoughtful, we invite people to slow down and enjoy the moment.

Our Approach

At Ode to Joy, our approach to tablescaping is rooted in the same belief that has guided Yana since childhood.

Beauty lives in the details.

It lives in a carefully chosen tablecloth, flowers gathered in season, candles flickering as the evening draws in, and guests lingering around the table long after the plates have been cleared.

The true art of tablescaping lies in creating an atmosphere that feels warm, generous and deeply personal. xx
